Pine-Richland Middle School Concert Band

DEAR PARENTS:

BELOW YOU WILL FIND A LIST OF REQUIREMENTS, AS WELL AS THE GRADING PROCEDURE TO BE USED FOR THE 2015-2016 PINE-RICHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS.  YOU WILL ALSO FIND INFORMATION REGARDING MUSIC/ INSTRUMENTS / & SUPPLIES, A LIST OF PRIVATE TEACHERS, A PRACTICE SHEET (REQUIRED TO BE TURNED IN EACH 9 WEEKS), A 6-DAY ROTATION SCHEDULE FOR STUDENTS WHO SHARE BAND WITH EITHER CHORUS OR ORCHESTRA, AND SOME INFO REGARDING PRMS JAZZ BAND.

PLEASE TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO READ THIS INFORMATION SO THAT YOU MAY BECOME AWARE OF WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOUR CHILD IN THIS CLASS.  YOUR SUPPORT IN HELPING YOUR CHILD TO UNDERSTAND THE REQUIREMENTS WILL HELP TO MAINTAIN A QUALITY MUSIC PROGRAM.

 GRADES ARE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

  ACHIEVEMENT

1.            CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT OF MUSICAL SKILLS

2.            PREPARATION OF CONCERT SELECTIONS

3.            EFFORT TO  PRACTICE

4.      PLAYING TESTS

 ATTITUDE

1.            DESIRE TO INCREASE THE BAND’S PERFORMANCE LEVEL

2.            DESIRE TO IMPROVE YOUR OWN MUSICAL SKILLS

3.            COOPERATION AND RESPECT OF YOUR FELLOW BAND MEMBERS AND DIRECTORS

4.            PROPER REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE ETIQUETTE.

 ATTENDANCE

1.       ATTEND ALL SCHEDULED EVENTS

(AS A BAND MEMBER, YOU ARE IMPORTANT FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE GROUP!)

 

BAND RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

 PLEASE:

– BE SEATED WITH YOUR INSTRUMENT TOGETHER AND READY TO GO ON TIME!

– NO FOOD, DRINKS  OR GUM DURING CLASS TIME

– HAVE ALL ACCESSORIES FOR EVERY CLASS (REEDS, VALVE OIL, ETC.)

– HAVE MUSIC FOLDER AT EVERY CLASS

– BRING A PENCIL TO EVERY CLASS

– DO NOT TALK WHILE CONDUCTOR IS ON THE PODIUM

– PRACTICE – 20 MINUTES FIVE DAYS A WEEK

-HAVE A GREAT YEAR!!!!

NOTE TO ALL PARENTS:

1. STUDENTS WHO ARE ASSIGNED SCHOOL INSTRUMENTS AND MOUTHPIECES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CARE.  LOST INSTRUMENTS OR MOUTHPIECES CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE FOR THE SCHOOL.  STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT OF ANY INSTRUMENT OR MOUTHPIECE LOST OR DESTROYED.

2. PRACTICE IS WHAT MAKES OUR PROGRAM WORK.  WITH YOUR COOPERATION AT HOME, THE PINE-RICHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS WILL GET BETTER.  PLEASE URGE YOUR CHILDREN TO PRACTICE ON A CONSISTENT BASIS.

3. REEDS MAY BE PURCHASED FROM ANY OF THE LOCAL MUSIC STORES.

4.  PLEASE CONSIDER THE BENEFITS OF HAVING YOUR CHILD TAKE A PRIVATE LESSON ONCE A WEEK WITH A PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR.  YOUR CHILD WILL NOT ONLY PROGRESS AT A MORE RAPID RATE, BUT WILL ALSO GAIN A FEELING OF CONFIDENCE WHEN ATTEMPTING MORE CHALLENGING MUSIC.  WE HAVE PROVIDED A LIST OF SOME PRIVATE TEACHERS IN OUR AREA ON THE NEXT PAGE OF THIS PACKET.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS  CONCERNING THIS MATTER PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF YOUR BAND DIRECTORS.

IMPORTANT DATES:

AS THE NEW YEAR BEGINS, THE BAND IS GETTING READY FOR THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR.  THIS SCHEDULE WILL GIVE YOU THE DATES AND TIMES FOR YOUR CHILD TO PERFORM WITH THE BAND.  PLEASE BE AWARE THAT BAND IS A PERFORMANCE BASED COURSE AND OUR PERFORMANCES ARE COMPARABLE TO TESTS IN OTHER SUBJECT AREAS.  ATTENDANCE IS EXPECTED AT ALL CONCERTS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE EMAIL US AT:  JSTILLWAGON@PINERICHLAND.ORG

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2015  8TH GRADE NIGHT @ PR FOOTBALL  GAME VS. Kiski

STUDENTS SHOULD REPORT TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND ROOM AT 6:00PM.  DRESS FOR THIS PERFORMANCE IS PR COLORS UP TOP, BLUE JEANS, AND TENNIS SHOES.  STUDENTS WILL BE PERFORMING FOR THE PRE-GAME BAND PERFORMANCE AND WILL ALSO PLAY STAND TUNES ALONG WITH THE PRHS MARCHING BAND THROUGHOUT THE FIRST HALF OF THE GAME.  PRMS BAND STUDENTS AND CHAPERONING PARENTS DO NOT NEED A TICKET FOR THE GAME.  STUDENTS WILL BE RELEASED TO THEIR PARENTS AFTER HALFTIME.  PLEASE HAVE A PLAN TO MEET YOUR CHILD AFTER HALF TIME.  THEY ARE PERMITTED TO COME MEET YOU INSIDE THE STADIUM FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE GAME, YOU MAY PICK THEM UP IN FRONT OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, OR YOU CAN MEET THEM AT THE BACK SIDE OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CLOSEST THE STADIUM.  NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PLAN, PLEASE MAKE SURE BOTH YOU AND YOUR CHILD ARE ON THE SAME PAGE.  STUDENTS WILL BE PERMITTED TO PUT THEIR INSTRUMENT AWAY AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THEN RETURN TO THE GAME, IF THEY DO NOT NEED IT OVER THE WEEKEND.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER  2, 2015 ALL-INSTRUMENTAL WINTER CONCERT

STUDENTS SHOULD REPORT TO PINE-RICHLAND HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM AT 6:30PM.  DRESS FOR THIS PERFORMANCE WILL BE WHITE SHIRT, BLACK PANTS AND TIE FOR THE BOYS AND WHITE SHIRT, BLACK PANTS, DRESS, OR SKIRT FOR THE GIRLS.  THE CONCERT WILL BEGIN AT 7:00PM IN THE GYMNASIUM.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 2016  PRMS SPRING BAND CONCERT

THE PINE RICHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS WILL SHINE AS THEY PRESENT THEIR ANNUAL SPRING CONCERT.  ADMISSION IS FREE.  CONCERT DRESS IS YOUR BEST, DRESSIEST OUTFIT. (EX. BOYS SHOULD WEAR DRESS SHIRTS, TIES, SLACKS AND GIRLS WEAR A NICE DRESS OR PANT OUTFIT)  STUDENTS SHOULD REPORT TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND ROOM BY 6:25 P.M.   FOR TUNING AND WARM-UPS.

Pine-Richland Middle School Jazz Band

THE PINE-RICHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL JAZZ BAND IS READY TO START ITS NEW YEAR.  ANY STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THIS GROUP WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REHEARSALS ON MONDAYS FROM 2:30 TO 3:30PM.  THERE WILL NOT BE AN ACTIVITY BUS AVAILABLE FOR TRANSPORTATION HOME.  TO BE IN THE JAZZ BAND STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION HOME.  IN ORDER FOR THIS GROUP TO WORK, STUDENT AND PARENT COOPERATION IS NECESSARY. THE STUDENTS MUST MAKE A COMMITMENT TO THESE REHEARSALS.

AUDITION DATE FOR THE PRMS JAZZ BAND WILL BE MONDAY 9/28 AFTER SCHOOL.  WE CAN HEAR SOME STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY ON 9/28.   STUDENTS CAN CALL HOME WHEN THEY ARE DONE AUDITIONING.  WE WOULD LOVE FOR AS MANY BAND STUDENTS TO TRYOUT AS POSSIBLE ON THE FOLLOWING INSTRUMENTS: ALTO, TENOR, & BARI SAXOPHONE, TRUMPET, TROMBONE, BASS, GUITAR, DRUM SET AND PIANO.
